End of Big Week on the Farm – Until Next Year!

We were delighted to sponsor RTE’s show “Big Week on the Farm” which aired last week. The award-winning farm show has been a huge success for RTE attracting more than 1.3 million viewers in 2017 and this year was no different.

Between Monday and Friday of last week the ifac sponsored RTE TV production, Big Week on the Farm, was reaching the homes of people all across the country. This year’s show was hosted by longstanding ifac clients, Neil and Gillian O’Sullivan, on their family farm in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. The O’Sullivan’s stole the show as they welcomed RTE cameras into their home for an action packed week.

This year’s Big Week on the Farm saw huge engagement online as people all over Ireland shared their thoughts on the show and insights into their lives on their own farms. On Twitter, these posts were united by the #onthefarm hashtag which was used in 1,871 tweets and reached a whopping 2.3 million accounts over the course of the week. Show host, Gillian O’Sullivan, was one of the most prolific tweeters with 61 tweets during her Big Week (You can find Gillian at @GillwallyO).

Big Week on the farm unites the farming community, and even non-farmers, each year and inspires the next generation of farmers. It was great to see local companies like @WdFoodFestival joining in on the conversation and reaching 121,554 with their tweets.

The importance of social media in interacting with your audience was proven this year as RTE featured many of the #onthefarm tweeted pictures live on the show. Some of our favourites included:

It was an action packed week covering everything from calving to urban farming and everything in between.

Ifac were sure not to miss out on the action with our teams posting from our @ifac_advice page, our Food and Agri page @ifac_FoodAgri and also local partner Eoghan Drea was keeping us updated throughout the week @eoghandrea.

It's fair to say our host family have played a blinder last week and we can’t wait until next year to do it all again.
