New IFAC Accountants’ office heralds fresh opportunities for farmers
The new IFAC office at the Old Knockmay Road, Portlaoise was officially opened on Friday 9th of July by Dr Matt Dempsey, Editor & Chief Executive of the Irish Farmers Journal. Also in attendance was Padraig Walshe, President of COPA(Committee of Professional Agricultural Organisations) and former IFA President. Both Matt and Padraig are clients of IFAC Accountants.
Seamus O’Brien, Chairperson of IFAC spoke about the origins of IFAC in Portlaoise. He went onto praise the work of former CEO Peadar Murphy and former Chairman Donie Cashman in making IFAC the organisation it is today.
The next speaker Michael McNamara, Branch Manager IFAC Accountants Portlaoise, thanked everyone for coming. "It is great to see such a turnout" he remarked. He went on to thank the staff & recorders for all their hard work and he thanked the clients for their support over the years.
Larry Kinsella, National Development Manager IFAC Accountants then paid tribute to the large IFAC team who look after clients in the Laois/Kildare area in such a dedicated manner. "All these people consistently put the client at the centre of everything we do and this has resulted in a huge level of client satisfaction over the years. The huge growth and development the IFAC service has in Laois/Kildare is a result of satisfied clients recommending the IFAC service to their friends and neighbours."
A presentation was made to IFAC Recorder Book-keeper Moira Brennan from Ballinakill. Moira attended the first training course in Dublin in 1975 and to this day is still working as hard and efficiently as ever as an IFAC Recorder.
Former IFA President Padriag Walsh told the gathering that he had first hand experience of the IFAC service. "Being a client of IFAC for the past 27 years, I think they provide an excellent service to farmers, they are prepared for the future when it comes to accounts. The Recorder calling to input the accounts takes the hassle out of book-keeping for the farmers and gives us the time to do what we do best – farm and work the land" Padraig went on to joke "Michael will have trouble keeping us out of the office now because of its accessibility."e;
The IFAC story in Portlaoise began in 1979 when the office was opened. The Portlaoise office had been formerly run in conjunction with the Tullamore office since the origins of IFAC in 1975. The team of IFAC Accountants is led by Michael McNamara. He is joined in his spacious new office by a work force of 19, including full & part-time staff. Michael McNamara has worked with IFAC for the past 24 years servicing both farm and non-farm clients. Over the past 24 years he has seen the nature of work change significantly with a huge emphasis now being placed on Tax Planning and Management Information.
The decision to buy and develop these new premises was made based on the considerable growth in business achieved over the years. This growth in business came about primarily because of satisfied customers speaking highly of the service to others and also by the efforts of our Board Members throughout the years – Brendan Fingleton (Inception to 1982), John McEvoy (1983-1988), Bill Flynn (1989-1992), Joe Quigley (1993-1996), Robert Young (1997-2002), Kevin Flynn (2003-present).
From the very beginning, IFAC was based on a Recorder/Bookkeeping Service to capture data accurately and computer technology to analyse it efficiently. The Recorder Service has been central to the development of IFAC over the years. The first Recorder Training course was held in 1975 with the following attending from Laois, Shelia Fitzpatrick, Moira Brennan and Mary O’Neill. Moira Brennan is still part of the Recording team with IFAC Accountants in Portlaoise today.
The office in Portlaoise is presently supported by Maeve Ryan, Area Development Officer and other senior management personnel.
